What is VigorHealth™?

Are you tired of being tired? If you dread getting out of bed in the morning, struggle to make it through the day, and your doctor has ruled out illness and disease, you're probably suffering from the #1 health complaint that doctors hear over and over again: lack of energy. Whether you need more energy to get through a stressful week, coach your kid's soccer team, or embark on a mountain trek, our new VigorHealth™ Energy Formula can help you gain more stamina and vitality than you've had in years - so you can reach your goals, and stay healthy at the same time.

Who Should Consider VigorHealth™?
  • Do you want more energy and vitality in your life?
  • Do you want the stamina you need to reach your goals?
  • Do you want a faster recovery time from stress
  • Are you looking for powerful immune support?
  • Do you want a more positive mood and outlook?
If so, then VigorHealth™ is what you've been looking for!

Why: If you feel tired all the time, you're not alone. According to Dr. Michael Schmidt, author of Tired of Being Tired, chronic fatigue, tiredness and low energy plague millions of people in the Western world. In fact, fatigue, chronic tiredness and low energy are the most common reasons people seek medical care.1

The problem is, we've come to accept fatigue and lack of energy as normal. But it's not, and you shouldn't tolerate it.

How much you exercise and sleep, the food and supplements you ingest, and the amount of stress you deal with on a day-to-day basis all impact how much energy you have. Try to make definite lifestyle changes by including:
  • a stress reduction technique such as meditation or yoga
  • 8 to 10 glasses of purified water each day
  • a whole-foods based diet
  • regular quality, sound sleep
  • at least a half-hour of cardiovascular exercise each day
You may also need added nutritional support to repair and rebuild your body - in order to recapture some of the joy and vigor from your youth. Even if you eat a healthy diet and take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement, we think you'll appreciate Whole Health Products' new VigorHealth™ Energy Formula, packed with adaptogenic herbs designed to help you adapt to stress and increase energy levels, and nutrients that stimulate circulation, improve digestion and increase overall body performance.

Key Ingredients

American Ginseng Also known as Panax Ginseng, American Ginseng has been revered by the Chinese for thousands of years as an herb that supports energy levels and increased immune function. Animal studies and double-blind, clinical trials in humans have demonstrated its ability to restore vitality and strength, support the adrenal glands and increase stress resistance.2,3

In a well-known experiment to demonstrate how Ginseng improves physical and mental performance, mice were subjected to swimming in cold water or running up a rope to determine if Ginseng could increase the length of time it took for them to become exhausted.4-8 The results indicated that Ginseng produced a significant anti-fatigue benefit. In one study, the time to exhaustion was increased up to 183% in the mice given Ginseng 30 minutes before exercising, compared with controls.5

In a double-blind, clinical study, nurses who had switched from day to night duty rated themselves for mood, competence and general well being before and after taking ginseng supplements. The group that took Ginseng scored higher in competence, mood parameters and mental and physical performance, when compared to the group that took a placebo.9

Schisandra Berry is revered the world over as an adaptogen to help the body's ability to respond to stress, recover from exhaustion, fight disease, and improve endurance, work performance and mental concentration.10

Several studies have demonstrated the adaptogenic effects of Shisandra. For example, in sports medicine, one of the important adaptogenic effects is a faster recovery time - physically and biochemically. When Schisandra was given to thoroughbred horses in a single dose of 12 gram 30 minutes before exercise and race time, the herb produced a significant effect in reducing cardiac and respiratory frequency, and the accumulation of lactate in the horses - contributing to a faster recovery time.11-14

Schisandra is especially beneficial for people who are recovering from illness. You can feel confident using it as a safe, proven remedy for alleviating anxiety, depression, nervous exhaustion, and numerous health complaints resulting from stress.

Solomon's Seal is a well-known Chinese tonic herb used to strengthen and moisten the lungs. The herb is commonly included in formulas to help relieve symptoms that occur with weakened adrenals and internal dryness, such as thirst, cough, dry throat and irritability. In two studies, a tincture of Solomon's Seal produced a strengthening effect on the heart of patients with heart failure, as well as a blood-sugar regulating effect on patients with hypoglycemia, due to overindulgence in meals with too much refined sugar.15,16

Astragulus Root is especially helpful to people with low energy, and those who get sick frequently. Used for thousands of years in China, Astragalus is said to strengthen the immune system and chi - the building block of all spiritual and physical energy. Some health professionals consider it to be the most powerful immunity-boosting herb.17

According to James Duke, Ph.D., a world authority on herbs, Astragalus increases levels of alpha-and gamma-interferon, two of the body's own anti-viral compounds. The extract seems to work best in supporting the immune system when it is taken before an illness strikes, and it is safe to take on a regular basis.

Licorice Root is a popular herb that has been used extensively in Eastern and Western cultures for centuries as an overall body tonic, and to treat a variety of ailments including chronic fatigue, depression and common cold symptoms. It's gone through extensive scientific investigations, and we now know that it contains eight active antiviral compounds.18,19

One of them, glycyrrhizin, inhibits a number of processes involved in virus replication, including the penetration of the body's cells and replication of viral genetic material. Glycyrrhizin also inhibits the inflammatory effects of cortisol - a hormone that is secreted by the adrenal glands in response to any kind of physical or psychological stress. Licorice's ability to neutralize cortisol's damaging effects is particularly important for reducing the impact of stress throughout the body.20

Licorice root also stimulates the production of digestive fluids and bile and supports the healthy function of the digestive system, kidneys, liver and bladder.18

Cayenne Pepper is considered one of the most valuable herbs for the entire digestive system, heart and circulatory systems. It acts as a catalyst and increases the effectiveness of other herbs when used with them. Cayenne's active ingredient, capsaicin, is a strong anti-inflammatory and is a common ingredient in topical pain ointments. When taken internally, it has also been found to increase blood flow, thus mitigating vascular disorders, tone the nervous system and relieve indigestion. Capsicum also has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, and has traditionally been used as a gargle for sore throats.21-23

Cayenne has also been found to support normal stomach tissue, and the peristaltic action in the intestines. It aids elimination and assimilation, and helps the body create hydrochloric acid, which is essential to good digestion and assimilation. This is very significant when we realize how important the digestive system is in helping to maintain mental, emotional and physical health - since it is through the digestive system that the brain, glands, muscles and every other part of the body are fed.24

Zinc is an essential mineral that is a component of more than 300 enzymes needed to repair wounds, maintain fertility in adults and growth in children, synthesize protein, help cells reproduce, preserve vision, boost immunity and protect against free radicals. In the past decade, Zinc has become an important ingredient in cold remedies, based on clinical data that supports its value in reducing the duration and severity of symptoms of the common cold when it's taken within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms.25

Zinc has also been shown to have a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect.26

Whole Health Product's VigorHealth™ Energy Formula contains Zinc Gluconate, the form that is most often found to be effective in clinical studies.

Gotu Kola has been used for hundreds of years in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine to rejuvenate the nervous system, strengthen the adrenals, improve mental function and help alleviate and prevent fatigue. It produces a calming effect on the entire body and is wonderful as an aid for dealing with stress. Now we know why - scientists attribute Gotu Kola's unique healing abilities to these pharmacologically active constituents:

Triterpenoids produce remarkable wound healing activity27, and a tranquilizing, anti-stress and anti-anxiety action.28

Asiatocosides support collagen production, enhancing skin repair and strengthening hair, skin, nails, and other connective tissue.27,29,30

Saponin glycosides produce a sedative effect.

Gotu kola is an excellent addition to any stress/fatigue management program.

Biota Seed is a traditional Chinese remedy that is used to calm the nerves, treat irritability, insomnia, poor memory and anxiety. It is often combined with Schisandra - one of the ingredients in VigorHealth™ Energy Formula - to nourish the heart.31,32

Magnesium helps support your adrenal glands, the small walnut sized glands that sit on top of your kidneys, in the back, near the bottom of the ribs on each side of the spine. The adrenals are the major steroid factories of the body producing or contributing to the production of about 150 vital hormones essential to your body's health and energy production.

According to James Wilson, M.D., author or Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome, 'The hormones secreted by your adrenals influence all of the major physiological processes in your body. They closely affect the utilization of carbohydrates and fats, the conversion of fats and proteins into energy, the distribution of stored fat (especially around your waist and at the sides of your face), normal blood sugar regulation, and proper cardiovascular and gastrointestinal function.'33

Healthy adrenal glands secrete very precise amounts of steroid hormones. The secretion of these hormones helps minimize negative and allergic reactions to drugs, alcohol, food and environmental allergens. But because the adrenals are so responsive to any change in your inner physical, emotional and psychological environment, it's easy for them to get out of balance. 'This means that too much physical, emotional, environmental and/or psychological stress can deplete your adrenals, causing a decrease in the output of adrenal hormones, particularly cortisol,' says Wilson. This decrease results in adrenal fatigue or hypoadrenia (hypo meaning lower and adrenia meaning related to the adrenals).33

In addition, Wilson says that if your adrenal glands have no opportunity to fully recover from chronic or simultaneously occurring stresses, usually the result is adrenal fatigue33 - which makes it hard to regain your energy and recover from chronic fatigue.

Vitamin B complex (thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12, folic acid, pantothenic acid, and biotin) help manufacture neurotransmitters in the brain. They function as vasodilators, enhancing blood flow, and help convert blood sugar into available energy - which is crucial to mental and physical performance.
